Other Services throughout the Church Season

While every service at St. Paul the Apostle- Rexdale is special, there are some important services which represent a significant time of the church calendar year which are important.

Mid-week worship and sharing time

  • Weekly. TBD soon.

Special Services in Lent

  • Ash Wednesday – service at 10:30 AM. Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes.
  • Ashes from the previous year’s palms from Palm Sunday are placed on a person’s forehead to indicate and remind us that we are human. Mortality and penitence are the two themes of Ash Wednesday. The following words are said, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” The ashes are usually placed on a person’s forehead in the sign of a cross.

Services in Holy Week

  • Palm Sunday: 10:30 AM Holy Eucharist, With Liturgy of the Palms
  • Maundy Thursday: 7:00 PM With Holy Eucharist and Foot Washing
  • Good Friday: 11:00 AM With Veneration of the Cross
  • Easter Sunday: 10:30 AM. A Service of Holy Eucharist. He is Risen!

Palm Sunday

September

  • Prayers for students returning to school for the new academic year, and the blessing of backpacks and technology.

November

  • All Souls Day: Holy Eucharist and Commemoration of All Faithful Departed.
  • Remembrance Sunday: We honour the fallen on the Sunday closest to Remembrance Day. A service of special remembrance and prayer with Holy Eucharist.

December

  • Blue Christmas – We remember loved ones who have died, and give all people who are suffering losses of whatever kind, an opportunity to be in community at what can be a difficult time of the year for many people.
  • Lessons and Carols – A joyful celebration filled with Lessons from Scripture readings, music and Carols.
  • Christmas Eve – 7:30 PM Service of Worship
  • Christmas Day – December 25th at 10:30 AM.
  • First Sunday after Christmas – December 29th at 10:30 AM
  • New Year’s Eve, Owlah Watch Night Service – December 31st at 10:30 AM.
